His music is characterized by a particularly unusual beauty of sound, an elegance of approach, a highly-developed sense of rhythm, and a sure sense of structure ... there is a real originality in his compositional ideas ... Piotr has become a sophisticated, mature composer ... " Joel Hoffman, Composer, Professor of Composition Universiyt of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Music Director MUSIC X contemporary music festival. 8/30/2004 | "New World Symphony violinist Piotr Szewczyk led off the evening with his own Lament for the Tsunami Victims, Written for solo violin, Szewczyk's Lament conveys his reaction to the unfolding tragedy. In a slow crescendo, spare, harmonically ambiguous fragments become longer, reaching a discordant peak before descending, all passion and anger spent, in a quiet resignation. The inluence of his compatriot Penderecki is palpable in the spiky angular humanism, but Szewczyk's piece has its own voice and makes a concise and effective response to the desaster. The composer's performance provided ardent advocacy." Lawrence A. Johnson, South Florida Sun Sentinel |
